Dr. Wenaas has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was a young child and had to leave her beloved best friend, a Sheltie named Lady, at the animal hospital for surgery. She initially wanted to be the one who got to stay with her, instead of having to leave her behind to receive care. However, once she picked her up after surgery, took her home, and saw how much better she felt, she became determined to be the person who could make all of our four-legged friends feel better.
Thankfully, she had a very supportive family that let her escape her Sooner upbringing to go to Texas A&M University and follow her dream. Dr. Wenaas spent eight great years in College Station working through her undergraduate degree as well as her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.
She met her husband, Christopher, while she was in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program and while he was completing a Masters in Engineering. After graduation, they moved to the Frisco area where they both found great career opportunities. Dr. Wenaas and her husband have been blessed with two wonderful children, whom they love to watch enjoy life and play sports. She was fortunate enough, when they were young, to have the opportunity to work at the Emergency Animal Hospital of Collin County, where she worked for 7 years.
During her time at the EAHCC, she was given the opportunity to become familiar with what makes an exceptional day practice, as she worked closely with those in the area to provide emergency/critical care to their patients. She then decided to make the transition from emergency care to a general practice. She has since worked at clinics in both Plano and Frisco before joining the team here at Country Creek Animal Hospital.
Dr. Wenaas is the proud owner of two dogs, Lily, a darling Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and a handsome Labrador Retriever named Moose. And of course, she also has an adorable kitty named Banks.
Dr. Wenaas values the relationships that develop between a client and their veterinarian and enjoys being a part of that special bond between a client and their pet. She joined the practice in 2020, but has been a veterinarian for more than 22 years. She has also previously worked with both Drs. Daryl and Lollie Mensik. Dr. Wenaas is delighted to be able meet you and become a trusted part of the team that cares for your pets.
